Bangkok - A female prime suspect of barbershacker mutilation in Khon Kaen region, Thailand became a social media celebrity after her image in custody was spread on the Internet.
A woman named Preeyanuch Nonwangchai, 24, or otherwise known as Preaw was detained by police along with two colleagues on suspicion of mutilating the corpse of a woman, Warisara Koinjui last month.
Since being arrested recently, the main suspect of this sadistic murder and his two colleagues, Kawinta Ratchanda, 25, and Apiwan Satayabundit, 28, are often recorded in branded clothes and dressed up.
Police officers and investigators "do not hesitate to pose with the brutal killer suspect and upload his image on social media until it becomes viral. The phenomenon of 'Preaw fever' also appeared in social media in Thailand.
The governor of Khon Kaen, Pongsak Preechawit is concerned about the phenomenon. He called on the younger generation to look back at the heinous crimes committed by the mutilating woman.
"I am worried because many young people are talking about products that suspects use such as bags, glasses, clothing and makeup.The younger generation have to re-read their stories and the heinous crimes they are doing," Preechawit said, as quoted by the Bangkok Post on June 7, 2017.
Director of the Institute of Mental Health and Children of Thailand, Dr Mathurada Suwannapho said some young people began to admire the woman because of the excessive media focus on the main suspect of bar staff mutilations.
